Turn chronograph data into a defensible profile

Collect a representative string. Follow the chronograph manufacturer's safe setup and capture enough valid shots to avoid treating one reading as the rifle's velocity. Mark obvious device errors instead of averaging them blindly. Preserve the raw evidence. Keep individual velocities, average, extreme spread, standard deviation when available, date, and conditions. The mean alone cannot explain a questionable session later. Enter a traceable profile value. Use the representative muzzle velocity with the matching projectile, drag model, coefficient, zero, and units. Keep the session identity recoverable in the profile name or notes. Validate on target. Recalculate and compare multiple known distances. Chronograph data is strong evidence for muzzle velocity, not proof that every other profile input is correct.
Do not true away good measurements casually. If trustworthy chronograph data and observed drop disagree, investigate distance, zero, units, atmosphere, drag data, and observation quality before rewriting the measured velocity.
